Turkey

Turkey, surrounded by sea on three sides, the Mediterranean, the Aegean and the black sea is a popular holiday destination for many Europeans, Turkey has a population of around 55 million, the vast majority being Turks, Turkey has many climate zones, the Aegean and Mediterranean coast has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters, the temperature in summer reaches 29ºC and can be quite humid, the climate on the black sea coast is warm during the summer months and mild in the winter, this area also has heavy rainfall, the temperature in inland regions is more extreme due to the altitudes, in summer temperatures can reach 42ºC, while winters can be very cold and snowy, Turkey has some breathtaking and colorful scenery, which is at its best during autumn and spring, snow capped mountains, pine forests and green fields, it would take more than one visit to Turkey to appreciate the beauty of it.

Turkey is surrounded by history dating back centuries, all over the different regions are museums with artifacts from previous civilizations, bronze statues left behind from the Hittite Empire, jewelry, statues, even kitchen utensils are on display in the museums in Turkey from the Roman and Greek Empire; buildings, some still standing, others, just ruins but visitors to Turkey will be able to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the construction of so many of them. Many civilizations have left their mark on Turkey, for historians and archeologists all over the world Turkey is paradise, Turkey is also home to one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, the Temple of Artemis, Turkish bath houses were built in medieval times and hold a very important place in Turkish life.

Turkish people are very generous and hospitable, if invited in to their home, you will eat the best food and sit in the best seat, the people of Turkey accept all nationalities and their customs, folklore is very much alive in Turkey; each region has their own unique dance, costume and tunes depending on what the situation is, even weddings have their own music and dance in Turkey, they also have their own sports, one of which is grease wrestling for which championships are held every year.

Turkey has some beautiful golden beaches, which attract many Europeans year after year, but Turkey has more to offer than just sun, sea and sand, water sports including jet ski, and sailing during the summer months, inland, skiing is available in the winter months in Turkey, other activities include mountain biking, walking and bird watching, sight seeing holidays are best taken during the spring and autumn months (April to June and September to October), the black sea coast in Turkey is best visited during May to September to appreciate the landscape, eating out in Turkey you will find many restaurants selling traditional cuisine including kebabs as well as international cuisine, a visit to a Turkish bath house is a must for any visitor to Turkey.
